WENSLEYDALE FULL CHEESE TRIATHLON 2012

After a week in the sick bay I wasn’t sure how I would fair at this one of the toughest in the country, 1900 metre swim which is the only flat part of the course, 42 mile very hilly bike with 4 1:4 climbs and 12 mile fell run straight up for 6 and back down again.

IRONMAN UK 2012

With having taken a break from long distance last year I wasn’t sure how I would fair in my first professional race at long distance, but in for a penny in for a pound!!

After a solid winters training I was confident I would at least achieve a sub 10 hour finish, there was a strong Pro field on the day but I managed to block this from my nervous system which was already hitting top note.

On the 16^th June I set off in the pouring rain to Somerset praying that the weather would pick up. As I arrived at Wimbleball Lake it had got worse, the camp site looked more like a scene from Glastonbury.

I went to the Pro race briefing where all the top names were gathering and felt totally out of place. After getting the low down for race morning I decided to have a drive around the bike route, which as it turned out was a very wise move as it is quite a technical course with some nasty climbs.
